When free is entirely fine
If you are testing an idea, if you need one page to send people to from Instagram, or if the business is a hobby only just becoming a business, a free platform is a reasonable first step. Better to have something than to wait a year for perfect. The same applies if you do not yet know what you are selling: free buys you time to find out.
What you pay without money
- An address like yourbusiness.platform.com, which looks temporary and is hard to dictate.
- Somebody else advertising or the platform logo on your pages.
- Limited access to SEO settings, often with no control over titles and structure.
- No way to move: content and design usually cannot leave with you.
- Speed you do not control, and Google measures it.
The moment free becomes expensive
When you start paying for ads pointing at that address. When a customer asks whether you are a serious company. When you want to take orders. And when you realise that after two years of content you cannot move without rewriting everything. At that point the cost is not building a new site, it is the lost time and the visibility that was built on somebody else address.
The middle path people overlook
Between free and a full project sits a simple site on your own domain: a few pages, your address, full access to SEO settings. It costs less than most people expect and it removes every limit listed above. Ranges are in the piece on website cost.
If you are unsure where you stand, describe the business and we will say if your current setup is perfectly fine.
